> Fourteen years of things I've built: open source, client products, and community work.

Most of it is Python and Django backends; lately it's AI agents. These days I lead engineering on [Rosey](https://meetrosey.ai), [Fueled](https://fueled.com)'s AI-native delivery platform. [Now](https://saurabh-kumar.com/now/) has the details.

This is a selection. Smaller things live on [GitHub](https://github.com/theskumar), and some client work isn't public.

## AI agents and research

Where most of my time goes now: retrieval with citations, evals, and memory for long agent sessions.

- **[Agent Stuff](https://github.com/theskumar/agent-stuff)** (2026–now): My extensions, skills and prompts for Pi and Claude Code. Including review and handoff workflows. Role: Personal setup, shared.
- **[Pi Pocket Blackhole](https://github.com/theskumar/pi-pocket-blackhole)** (2026): Compacts long agent sessions in Pi Pocket without a model call. It came out of my research on agent memory. Role: Author.
- **[South Pole](https://www.southpole.com/)** (2026): AI for South Pole's Quality Management Framework. Answers registry questionnaires with page-level citations, then drafts the reports. Role: Research, architecture and working concepts. Answers with page-level citations.
- **[IrisMD](https://www.irismd.com/)** (2024–2025): An AI-assisted medical scribe that turns live patient conversations into EHR notes. OpenAI's API beat self-hosted Whisper on cost and quality. Role: Started the codebase; transcription research.

## Developer tools

Small tools that do one thing well. python-dotenv is the one that took off.

- **[python-dotenv](https://github.com/theskumar/python-dotenv)** (2014–now): Loads environment variables from `.env` files. Written after a credentials leak. pydantic-settings and uvicorn depend on it. Role: Author and co-maintainer. ~580M downloads a month.
- **[Dotfiles](https://github.com/theskumar/dotfiles)** (2013–now): My working environment. Including the [shell-startup audit](https://saurabh-kumar.com/articles/2026/05/how-i-optimized-my-zsh-startup-time/). Role: Personal setup, shared.
- **[django-init](https://github.com/Fueled/django-init)** (2014–2024): Fueled's own, simpler take on cookiecutter-django. Role: Creator and main author.
- **[cookiecutter-django](https://github.com/cookiecutter/cookiecutter-django)** (2013–2016): A production-ready template for new Django projects. Started by Daniel Roy Greenfeld; I helped maintain it. Role: Contributor and co-maintainer.
- **[python-usernames](https://github.com/theskumar/python-usernames)** (2015): Checks that usernames are URL-safe and not reserved or abusive. Role: Author.
